PRESS RELEASE

MARI-LIIS KELDER (1963) and ENE LUIK (1959) will open their co-exhibition  Mētēr archē in Hobusepea gallery at 5pm on January 4th, 2012.

Mari-Liis Kelder has acquired BA in the department of sculpture (1993) and MA (1996) at Estonian Academy of Arts. Participating in exhibitions since 1990. She was the chairwoman of Estonian Sculptors' Union in 1998-2009.

Ene Luik has graduated from the department of painting at Estonian Academy of Arts in 1993 and acquired a MA degree in art pedagogy in 2009. Participating in exhibitions since 1990.

According to both artists, current exhibition Mētēr archē, with its subtitles „matriarchy“ and „our collective matriarchy“, deals with the role of mother and the leading role of a woman in family's daily life. Kelder and Luik are wondering which social, banal, or existential statements can be related to the formally unproven argument of „meter arche“; and whether it is ironic enough to relate it to the „issue of Femina“ of the 21st century? Both artists contemplate these questions in their work while creating various reflections and diffractions.

Exhibition will be open until January 16, 2012.

Exhibition is supported by the Cultural Endowment of Estonia.
