PRESS RELEASE

TÕNIS KENKMAA (1982) will open his personal exhibition Home Recordings in Hobusepea gallery at 5pm on June 29th, 2011.

Current exhibition focuses on the possibilities and restrictions of creative activities in domestic conditions. Home recording as a concept mostly associates with recording and performing music in one's home, without using big studios, producers, assistants and various technical equipment.

It is up to every individual whether domestic atmosphere is an appropriate environment for practising creative activities. While first being excited about the possibilities to make music at home, I learned that achieving the desired results was more difficult than I had thought. One needs loads of motivation in order to gain balance between  the great idea and the ways of realization – this does not necessarily find you in the comfortable conditions of your living room, so that the process of reaching your goal seems to be taking more time than planned.

A selection of ideas about domestic creation, collected during the past few years, are being exhibited. The pieces have been titled, however, they hardly acquire the status of an „artwork“. Objects shown at the present exhibition are the slightly worn out and reflective elements of glamorous nightclub life as well as the unmotivated and hesitating ready-made items of daily life. The sounds recorded at home have not the depth yet, but there is artwork that have been revitalized for the exhibition.
