PRESS RELEASE
MART VAINRE's (1988) personal exhibition In the right place at the right time, always will be opened in Hobusepea gallery at 6pm on September 7, 2011.

The current series In the right place at the right time, always is an attempt to reconstruct the effect that is born when being in some new place at a certain moment of time. During one year I visited three cities where I had not been before – Riga, Vilnius and Frankfurt. Every time I see something for the first time I feel myself extremely active and my brain stops digging up old memories for a moment, leaving room for new, immediate sensations coming from outer environment. This situation produces a liberating and introspective effect.
One way to have a distant look at your work is to form a hyperreal attitude. There is a photograph, an artist, and a canvas; however, a photograph should be transferred to a canvas with the means of painting the way it is minimally distracted by the artist's mentality. This way, I am able to reconstruct the condition lasting for a fraction of a second when I am drifting away from myself and looking myself from a distance. This is a meditative act, resulting into the appearance of a valuable empty space in your head. Through the process of painting this condition can be quite efficiently prolonged.

Present artwork points out time perception. Every following painting presents exactly the same place where an additional second has been added in time. This unit of time has been applied on the surface of previous situation as a transparent layer of new basic colour. Motion and time come forth in the subsiding way. In ‘‘3 seconds of movement in Frankfurt, on the 14th May 2011, from 00:51:57 to 00:51:59, with three primary colours (In the right place at the right time, always III)’’ a spectrum of time becomes visible. The past, the present and the future have been presented as a complete spectrum of colours. Blue, red and yellow together with related endless combinations describe the motion.

The title of the exhibition does not differentiate between important and unimportant time and place. As a human being, I always feel responsible to act adequately everywhere. I believe that the keyword here is the way we are interpreting the outer world. As I consider my working methods at least partially to be a meditative practice, then I try to bring out mindfulness and the ability to contemplate that are the conditions for adequate mentality.
Painting ‘‘Self-image from 8th February 2010 to 3rd September 2011 „ is always incomplete and I am presenting its intermediate results. During the year-and-a-half-long process of work, I have painted three slightly different conceptions of personality on the top of each layer. Changes of both outer and inner world in time are inseparably connected. I wish the transfer of information between those two would take place without losses and misinterpretations, quintessentially.
