PRESS RELEASE

Co-exhibition Urban Mystic by MALL NUKKE (1964) and REGINA-MARETA SOONSEIN (1991) will be opened in Hobusepea gallery at 4 pm on January 19, 2011.

Mall Nukke has been prevalently using collage technique for the last few decades; however, for the current exhibition she has invited Regina-Mareta Soonsein as the co-author, the latter being well acquainted with tattoo techniques. While using models with tattoos of well-known brands and symbols, Nukke visualizes the belief that a tattoo is an urbanistic and universal means of communication.

The works of the present exhibition are described by Mall Nukke as follows:
„Time and Man. Man and City. City and Things. Things and Time. City loves heroes and deities. The weak have no place here. Things, their symbols govern us. We have accepted them. This is the universal semiotic sign system that is uniting and separating groups and classes.
The world is moving towards unification. It doesn't matter whether you live in Brazil or Botzwana, Austria or Japan. The religion of things unites. The spreading area of this culture is for some reason in most cities. City helps to make you anonymous and then find yourself again through the „brands“. City=Things=Men. The mystical urban religion.“
