On Friday, 15 May at 5:00 p.m., the Tartu Artists’ Union’s first spring exhibition will open in three galleries at the Tartu Art House.
The spring exhibition brings together, for the first time, works exclusively by members of the association. The exhibition brings together artists from different generations, focusing on the differences and similarities between them. There will be 104 members of the Tartu Artists’ Union participating in the exhibition.
The exhibition originated at the union’s general meeting from a desire to bring members closer together at a time when communication has increasingly moved online, and in-person contacts have become less frequent. As part of the project, duos of artists of different ages were formed; they familiarised themselves with each other’s works and made joint selections for the exhibition. The works presented in the exhibition emerged from their mutual meetings and conversations.
“The only rule for the first spring exhibition was that you couldn’t participate alone. We do plenty of that solitary tinkering anyway. We may be in the same association, but we don’t necessarily know everyone personally. That’s why it was heart-warming to see, for example, 30-year-old and 80-year-old artists teaming up to delve into each other’s work,” says Stella Mõttus, one of the organisers of the spring exhibition and a curator at the Tartu Art Museum.
Exhibition committee: Stina Leek, Ove Maidla, Margus Meinart, Stella Mõttus and Urmo Teekivi
