Open call for 2026 exhibitions runs until 30 November!

Apply for exhibition time from the Helsinki Artists’ Association galleries by 30 November 2024! The call is now open for spring and autumn terms 2026 at Gallery Katariina and HAA Gallery! The Malmitalo Cultural Center will resume its operations in 2026. Therefore, contrary to earlier information, the open call for the Malmitalo Gallery will not take place in 2024. If exhibition activities at the Malmitalo Gallery continue, an open call for exhibitions will be organized in the spring of 2025.

The open call invites individual artists as well as artist groups and art organisations to submit new, topical proposals with focus on contemporary art. Exhibition proposals are binding.

Gallery introductions 

Gallery Katariina 

By re-opening the legendary Gallery Katariina after a few years’ break in 2021, Helsinki Artists’ Association brought one of the scene’s most iconic galleries back to the centre of Helsinki. 

Each exhibition period is four weeks in duration. The exhibition rent includes the supervision and cleaning of the gallery space as well as the communications and marketing. The artist is responsible for the transportation of the artworks, setting up and taking down the exhibition, insurances, and for the food and drink served at the opening. 

Gallery spaces and fees: 

The gallery space measures ca 55 m2 

The total rent is 900 €, 720 € for members of Helsinki Artists' Association. The discount applies also to groups, if at least half of the group members are current members of HAA.

HAA Gallery 

HAA Gallery at Suomenlinna Sea Fortress welcomes new proposals for topical contemporary art exhibitions. Proposals including additional programme are encouraged. 

Tens of thousands of visitors visit HAA Gallery every year. Unique in atmosphere, the gallery space is suitable for organising diverse exhibitions and events, including media art displays (equipment list below). Each exhibition period is four weeks in duration, and the exhibition periods can be applied for once a year. The exhibition rent includes the supervision and cleaning of the gallery space as well as the communications and marketing. The artist is responsible for the transportation of the artworks, setting up and taking down the exhibition, insurances, and for the food and drink served at the opening. 

Gallery spaces and fees: 

the whole gallery space 204m² (two halls), fee 1.080/972 € 

Hall 1, 114m², fee 630/567 € 

Hall 2, 90m², fee 540/486 € 

Members of the Helsinki Artists’ Association are entitled to a member discount of 10% on all rents. The discount applies also to groups, if at least half of the group members are current members of HAA.
