Group exhibition “Collusion“

06.10.2023

On Friday, 13 October at 5:00 p.m. the group exhibition “Collusion” will open in the monumental gallery of the Tartu Art House. The curator of the exhibition is Maarit Mälgi.

The exhibition features the works of 13 talented artists, predominantly created during 2023. The works are all made of clay, but a number of different firing methods have been used to complete the works, from wood burning to earthenware and stoneware. In addition, one completely unfired work made of raw clay complements the exhibited works.

Each work on display possesses its own distinctive narrative and purpose for gracing this exhibition. The vast diversity of backgrounds and experiences among the artists is manifested in their distinct ways of handling materials, rendering the exhibition a vibrant and multifaceted collection.

Among the participating artists, you'll find esteemed figures in the Estonian ceramics scene, individuals who have left their marks on prestigious symposiums and exhibitions worldwide. Many of them also serve as instructors and mentors in various Estonian educational institutions. This exhibition also features artists with sculptural backgrounds, for whom clay has emerged as a beloved and captivating medium, infusing their works with the allure of ceramic sculpture.

“The exhibition's title, ‘Collusion’, underscores the myriad approaches that, when gathered within a single space, forge connections and engender a new, symbiotic quality. Our common love for clay and ceramics unites us, but it's the firing process that weaves an invisible web of connections among us,” Maarit Mälgi, the curator of the exhibition, explains.

Participants in the exhibition: Priit Allas, Eike Eplik, Mari Hiiemäe, Karin Kalman, Tõnis Kriisa, Eva Krivonogova, Külli Kõiv, Kersti Laanmaa, Maanus Mikkel, Rauno Thomas Moss, Maarit Mälgi and Meiu Münt.

Graphic design: Madis Liplap
The exhibition is supported by the Estonian Cultural Foundation and Cultural Endowment of Tartu.

The exhibition will be open until 13 November.
