Open Call for Estonia Based Video Artists

The Videocity team is delighted to announce our open call for a collaborative exhibition between Austria and Estonia based artists on the curatorial theme „simply nature“.

Please send a preview to no more than 1 video work 16:9 or 4:3 (max 10 min.), or alternatively a mp4 file via any transfer, additionally 1 video still as jpg and a link to your website or alternatively 1 DIN A-4 page with your short CV. 

If your Video will be selected you’ll be offered, depending on our funding success, a screening fee. 

Videocity usually shows short 1 channel video works in public spaces, mostly without sound, due to the exhibition locations. This also applies for videos that have a soundtrack. We organize exhibitions in different locations across the world, whilst having permanent locations as well, such as the little Box in Bern: https://www.videocity.org/kino-rex-simplynature and „the city trail“ in St. Pölten https://www.videocity.org/st-plten-parcours-2024

For 2026 we’re planing to show the exhibition „Get Ready Player 1“ in Tallinn.

Curatorial concept
„Get Ready Player 1“Is the interaction between humans and nature circular or linear? Which shapes arise, when these two entities coincide? Zig-zagging between needs, wishes, longings and instincts we engage with nature, as if it was a game of chess. One player makes a move, then the other one draws next, then the first one goes again and so on. The movements on the board form an everlasting net of interconnectedness between those two entities. The question of wether one day the two players will feel completely separated from each other and one will set the other one checkmate, is an abiding thread on our minds. When will white draw on E8? And how does the loss of the other player manifest? Or can things be still turned around? If yes, how and most importantly by whom?
