On Thursday, 27 August at 5 p.m. Liisi Eelmaa will open her solo exhibition “I Create What I Think – ABRACADABRA” in the large gallery of the Tartu Art House.
Eelmaa’s latest works have focused on researching the specific characteristics of paintings: the relationships between matter, form, space and images. The exhibition “I Create What I Think – ABRACADABRA” is a continuation of her earlier series “Gently in the Air”.
The artist adds: “One of the most famous magical formulas is „abracadabra”. It is thought that in Aramaic it can be translated as “I create as I speak”. Thinking is magical, every item that surrounds us has started from thinking. Objects around us are either functional or of little practical use. Abstract paint, substance, beginning – ABRACADABRA.”
The exhibition uses sounds by Mihkel Tomberg.
Liisi Eelmaa (b 1982) has a bachelor’s degree in scenography from the Estonian Academy of Arts (2004) and a master’s degree in fine arts also from EAA (2017). She has been participating in exhibitions since 2003 and since 2005 she has worked as a freelance artist for various theatres. Her last exhibition in the Tartu Art House was in 2016 (with Minna Hint and Lilli-Krõõt Repnau).
The exhibition will remain open until 20 September.
