Tallinn Art Hall and Sõltumatu Tantsu Lava present the joint project “Body Space(d)” 27–30 November, bringing together pairs of artists from the Estonian visual arts and dance scenes to collaborate on unique one-night-only performances.
Curator Evelyn Raudsepp has invited the following pairs of artists to create performance pieces at the Art Hall: Edith Karlson and Sigrid Savi, Rene Köster and Mark Raidpere, and Flo Kasearu and Renate Keerd. On three consecutive nights the results of these collaborations will be presented and concluded on the fourth night with a diverse programme in a shared space featuring discussion and music.
The programme will be opened by the ruminations of sculptor Edith Karlson and performance artist Sigrid Savi on whether cowboy wisdom can survive in the wild west of one's mind. The meeting of choreographer and drag queen Rene Köster and photo and video artist Mark Raidpere uses the camera to bring forth the expressiveness and fragility of identities. The work of artist Flo Kasearu and producer Renate Keerd are connected by the refreshing use of absurd humour, as well as relying on a symbiosis of media and puckish playfulness.
These pairs of artists have never worked together, but are ready to take risks to test themselves in unexpected situations.
Evelyn Raudsepp is a curator operating on the borders between performance and visual art, who makes propositions to artists to step out of their usual fields of activity and enter the playground of a different field. The artistic practices and the thematic framing of the artists invited to the Art Hall allows them to experiment in the clinical white cube with theatrical means.
